With the arrival of the holiday season, the St. George community goes into overdrive! Christmas in St. George Begins with Halloween and continues through New Years Eve. St. George residents decorate “inside and out” and celebrate to the nth degree! In the last three months of the year, there are haunted houses galore, costume parties, lighting ceremonies at the LDS Temple in the middle of town and at Dixie Regional Medical Center on River Road, but, the best and brightest display is at Tuacahn Center for the Arts.
Multi-colored bulbs light up the Canyon of the Gods. Non-professional twinkling light displays can also be found in neighborhoods from one side of the greater St. George community to the other, including two national winners – in the same year – in competition on TV’s “Great Light Fight.” Whether lights on display around town are a half-hearted attempt to welcome in the season or a dazzling eye-popping exhibition of “all-things-Christmas” St. George knows how to make the most of the holidays.
Musical programs are currently a little more difficult to find than in previous years when the St. George Tabernacle had a wide array of entertainment at this time of year, but since it is being renovated for at least the current holiday season, you’ll need to look elsewhere. For instance, the Southern Utah Heritage Choir’s annual Christmas concert will be held at the Cox Auditorium on the campus of Dixie State University on December 15-16. There are Christmas themed shows at St. George Musical Theater as well as Brigham’s Playhouse and concerts and quality holiday shows at DSU and most local high schools.
