As a traveler to a new place, don’t you love to stroll the streets of the community to get a feel of what it is like? St. George is a community that has a love for the arts that roots back to the early settlers of this area and a city that loves to share the many things this wonderful community has right downtown.
The Art Around the Corner Foundation has helped bring the fine arts to the streets and to the heart of downtown St. George. This foundation has helped enrich the community by bringing in collections of sculptures by nationally renowned artists.
The city has accumulated a variety of different sculpture pieces that have been placed through the Historic District to be on display for the community and for the many who come here to visit. They have a permanent sculpture collection along with a temporary exhibit that changes annually with new pieces. The temporary exhibit is not only on display for the year, but the sculptures in this exhibit are also for sale. It is a great way to enjoy our city and enjoy your love of the arts.
St. George has a little bit of something for everyone to nurture or gain their appreciation for the arts. You can take in as much or as little as you would like right in the heart of the city. You can visit and tour the following in the downtown area:
- St. George Art Museum, www.sgartmuseum.org
- St. George Social Hall and Opera House www.sgcity.org/arts
- Water Walk www.sgcity.org/townsquare/index.php

As Thomas Merton said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” Come and lose yourself while staying with us at one of our luxurious St. George, Utah Vacation Rentals.
The picturesque scenery that St. George has to offer is absolutely breathtaking. It looks as though it has been taken from a postcard, but it is just all-natural beauty. There are so many activities that can be enjoyed in that area; no matter what time of year you go to visit.
If you and your family make the trip to visit this upcoming fall you may wish to partake in some unique activities like visiting various art shows, enjoying some open mike nights, going to the red cliffs recreational and much more.
Utah has a festival coming up called the Holi Festival of Colors, which dates back to North Indian tradition. It is the celebration of the changing of seasons along with a combination of people to celebrate spiritual/social harmony. The festival offers a plethora of colors, great music, dance and food along with an opportunity to ‘throw’ colors every two hours.
The town of St. George also offers free matinee movies for families and children and has lowered admission to many museums. Everyone can take a look into the history of ancient settlers as well as, Indian tribes and their way of life. St. George is rich in history that not many people have the opportunity to get up close and personal with.
Maybe your family is really into dinosaurs? St. George has a dinosaur discovery site where you can actually see bones being cleaned up and excavated. A neat thing that this particular site has to offer is a real life view of dinosaur tracks and the path that they naturally walked. Your children will have an opportunity to see fossils and rare remains that the dinosaurs have left behind.
Another great activity that takes place in Utah is Oktoberfest. Dating back to 1810, the tradition of Oktoberfest started at a wedding in Bavaria, Germany. As King Ludwig got married, a celebration took place. One consisting of song and dance, all of which you can still be a part of at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. About 60,000 people from across the country come to be a part of this celebration.
Whatever age category you fall into and whether you are ready to see dinosaurs, hike, learn some history or join others celebrating Oktoberfest, St. George and the state of Utah have many fun activities to be enjoyed year round.
Vacation Ideas for Families Seeking the Time of Their Lives in Utah
Utah | Life Elevated
Utah seems to have a leg up on most other states in the US. What I mean by that is the fact that there is just so much stuff to do in Utah. With a family myself, I have come to appreciate how much the Beehive State offers families, whether it be adventure or relaxation. If you are one of the many searching for Utah family vacation ideas, I have a LOT to show you.
For example, St. George, Utah is said by many to be one of the most beautiful places in the country if not on earth. I was talking with someone the other day who recently visited Zion National Park. This guy has been everywhere; France, Germany, New Zealand, Hawaii. He’s planning a trip to Asia this summer. Though he has traveled the world and back, he still argues that Zion National Park is the most amazing place he’s ever been. “It’s like I stepped onto Mars or something. I have never seen anything like it in my entire life. It’s by far my favorite place on planet earth.”
Did Someone Say Golf?
Since we’re already talking about St. George, let’s keep going. If you have a golf-nut in your family like I do, St. George takes the cake. Just check out this list of golf courses:
- Sunbrook Golf Club (27 Holes/Par 72/6800 Yards)
- Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club
- Coral Canyon Golf Course (18 Holes/Par 72/7029 Yards)
- Green Spring Golf Course (18 Holes/Par 71/6717 Yards)
- Southgate Golf Club
- Sky Mountain Golf Course (18 Holes/Par 72/6312 Yards)
- Dixie Red Hills Golf Course
- St. George Golf Club
- SunRiver Golf Course (18 Holes/Par 70/6250 Yards)
- The Ledges Golf Course (18 Holes/Par 72/7150 Yards)
- Sand Hollow Golf Club (18 Holes/Par 72/7200 Yards)
Bring Your Hiking Boots and a Lot of Sunscreen
Is that enough? I could probably keep going. If you’re not a golfer, no problem. Feast your eyes upon national and state park heaven. Like I mentioned before, Zion National Park is a favorite, but it goes beyond that. Check these out.
- Bryce Canyon National Park
- Capitol Reef National Park
- Cedar Breaks National Monument
- Coral Pink Sand Dunes
- Escalante Petrified Forest State Park
- Grand Staircase-Escalante National Park
- Iron Mission State Park
- Kodachrome Basin State Park
- Kolob Canyons
- Grand Canyon North Rim
- Pipe Springs National Monument
- Snow Canyon State Park
Art, Art, and More Art
It’s amazing how people even own houses out here rather than just camping out 24/7. Let’s say you want to experience something other than the outdoors all day. If you’re a performing arts fan, may I suggest the Tuacahn complex, an amphitheatre on the edge of scenic Snow Canyon.
There’s also Coyote Gulch Art Village. This place is SO cool! With art galleries, studios, theatre, an art festival, a great restaurant, a gift shop, and a coffee shop, you could literally spend days there.
Just In Case You Want a Comfy Bed
With years of traveling and staying in hotels, I know what I’m talking about when I say that the hotel scene is out of the question when you stay in St. George. Las Palmas Resort Condos allows you to escape the crowds and enjoy St. George the way you were meant to enjoy it. These luxurious and family-friendly condos offer you a breath of fresh air from your busy schedule back at home.
The resort offers pools, hot tubs, playgrounds, and basketball and volleyball courts coupled with the amazing scenic views surrounding the resort, and not to mention the condos themselves. If that doesn’t scream “FAMILY FUN,” I don’t know what does. Complete your St. George experience with a one-of-a-kind vacation resort.
Looking for Utah family vacation ideas has never been easier thanks to the city of St. George.
